Check out our preview: http://www.thirdage.com/entertainment/best-new-tv-shows-for-boomers. I'll definitely be watching American Idol, I'll give HBO's Luck a try (with Dustin Hoffman), gotta watch anything with Betty White, and I think Smash looks interesting with Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston. In the meantime, I have become addicted to Friday Night Lights courtesy of Netflix. I watched the entire Season 1 -- 22 episodes! -- this weekend. I'll do everything in my power to delay Season 2 because I'm sure I'll be just as obsessed, and the 22nd episode I just watched last night was a cliff-hanger. But I also have to work!
I think Parenthood is definitely worth watching..Tuesday nights so many relatable situations..a family of four siblings each with their own real life struggles and their parents..I recommend it.. Leslie
I h ave to admit..My favorite shows are John Stewart and Stephen Colbert.. I will never need drugs if I can watch them and enjoy good humor! Not everyone likes them but I dvr them and watch them every night! Leslie
I love Jon and Stephen, too. Jon for his wit and intellect and Stephen for his wit and ability not to break character.
I am a big fan of Dexter on Showtime (I also have all the books; I'm 2 books behind in my reading.) I started watching Shameless this season (also on Showtime) because of an article in TV Guide. A guilty pleasure is Celebrity Apprentice which will start up again in February. The real gem I found was when I was in the hospital going thru the nightmare of getting prepped for a colonoscopy (fellow comrades groan aloud & connect here)..a channel called TrueTV which was on the hospital's free TV offerings. The shows are so varied, but even tho I was going thru HELL, I watched, & was smiling !!! When I got home I was delighted that this channel was part of my cable tv "package", & it never disappoints. WE ALL DESERVE A GOOD LAUGH SOMETIMES!! Marion
I have enjoyed watching Enlightened with Laura Dern and her mother. It's such a crazy character, but one with heart.
I've been watching "Luck" on HBO, which was much-hyped, but getting interesting...BUT, this will be the one & only season, as HBO has cancelled the series. It seems three horses died during the filming of the episodes, so if the last episode is a cliff-hanger (which I hate anyway), we're all out of "luck". My all time favorite series on HBO was "Six Feet Under". Recently HBO ran the five seasons of the series every week..I enjoyed every second of each episode.
I LOVE Six Feet Under, too. I thought there was too much sex with the sex addict story line early on (I'm a bit of a prude watching naked grappling bodies on TV). But when they moved on, it became an almost perfect show. Certainly the actors were perfect for the roles. I just watched the ending the other day when I happened on it in the afternoon and was totally hooked. And gratified that selfish Claire finally offered to do something for her mom, who quite rightly rejected Claire's offer to not go to NYC and stay with her mom.
